The
Resurrection Results are In!
Opening Illustration: What does it all
mean…is Easter pointless?
I. The resurrection of Christ secured life for
us.
You know that had Christ
not been raised from the dead…there would be no salvation for us. It is the
resurrected Christ that secured our salvation.
I Cor. 15:14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our
preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
I want us to attempt to
come to a better and deeper understanding of the part the Resurrection plays in
our salvation…I beg your patience, as I see myself as a student …hopefully,
message by message and study by study, coming to a more complete
understanding….
A. Our reconciliation to
God was secured through the suffering and death of Christ while we were
sinners…Romans 5:10
The Bible seems to make a
separation or breaks down the suffering and death of Christ from the
resurrection of Christ. They are both
essential to the Gospel but by separating them we might have better
understanding of the Gospel.
Note the truth declared by Romans 5:10
… Our reconciliation was a work between God and His Son, apart from us, while
we were still sinners.
B. Our redemption was
secured through the shedding of Christ’s blood and the offering of His blood on
the altar in Heaven.
In the Book of Hebrews we
are given a clear picture of the Old Testament high priest, who took blood, the
blood of goats and sheep, into the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle, to atone
for the sins of the people. The Bible says:
Heb. 9:7
Then late, in this same
chapter, we are told:
Heb. 9: 11-14
Dr. J.
Vernon McGee of “Through the Bible”
explains in his commentary that Christ took His own Blood into the Holy of
Holies in Heaven and sprinkled it on the mercy seat there.
C.
Our justification with and before God is declared and assured by the
resurrection of Christ. Romans 4:24-25
Note
that I said our justification was declared or assured or revealed by the
resurrection of Christ.
Romans
5: 9 “but now being justified by his blood”
Compared
to
Romans
4:25 “was raised for our justification”
Justification
means that God counts you as righteous.
Our sin is not imputed to us and Christ’s righteousness is imputed to
us, we are counted righteous.
There
is no contradiction as, strictly speaking, justification does comes through the
Blood Atonement of Christ on the Cross.
Justification
was brought about by the shedding of blood…but we are assured of our
justification, we are declared justified, our justification is revealed by the
resurrection.
The
resurrection is justification for our life …it is raising, exalting,
resurrecting Christ and declaring Him the reason we have life, the Cause for
our life, the justification for God giving us life is that Christ paid our
debt.
Justification
was:
purchased
by Christ on the Cross
revealed
in the resurrection
The only
reason the resurrection was accomplished was because God was fully satisfied
with the payment made by His son.
The debt was completely paid and thus the Son, who was abandoned by God
on the Cross as He became sin for us, was brought home again forever indicating
the Father’s complete acceptance of His Son and complete payment of the
debt.
Raised for
our justification = raised, declaring our justification, raised, keeping our justification.
D. Our
repentance (acceptance of and agreement with) then is gifted to us by the
resurrected Christ… Acts 3:26, Acts 5:30-31
I
recognize these verses speak of Israel, but in reality everyone’s coming to
Christ is a gift, in that the first step of every experience with God is on
God’s part.
We are
loved first by God,
We are
drawn first of God.
We owe our
total salvation experience and our total spiritual experience to the
Resurrected Christ.
Conclusion
of Part two: Let’s suppose I am a school principle and
I make a rule that there will be no cursing. I publish and announce it in every
class. Every teacher is instructed to make every student aware of the rule and
they do so. They are also made aware of the penalty for committing such an
offence.
One
day on the playground …John Jones curses ….he gets mad and curses several
individuals, several heard him, I heard him and everyone knows I heard him
…including John Jones.
Now
let’s suppose I have a son who also attends this school and I go to my son and
say to him, “John Jones cursed and I must apply the penalty upon him. It is sad
because he thinks I do not live him, he thinks I hate him.” I say to my son, “I
love John and I know you love him also. Would you take the penalty for John
Jones?” My son says, “I do love John
and I will take his penalty.” I raise the rod and severely discipline my son
for the sin of John Jones…I do not spare because he is my son, I discipline him
just like I was whipping John the guilty party.
Listen
carefully …
at that
point John Jones is reconciled to me,
his redemption has been provided by my own son
…and I send word to John Jones that I have nothing at all against him.
I
request that John accept the reconciliation that is provided.
The
evidence that reconciliation and redemption has been completely provided is in
the fact that my sacred son is in my presence in fellowship with me.
All John
has to do to have the reconciliation and redemption applied to him is to repent
or agree to accept what was provided on his behalf.
